I run coal trains as well.  Just think if that coal was transported by truck how much more fuel would be used.  If you stopped doing your job, yes somebody else would still do it and nothing would change except you would not have a job.  I find it easily justifiable to haul coal but still work for and support better methods for energy use and production.  Railroads are part of the solution, not the problem.

I think the problem is systemic and goes deeper than people simply working a job. I work in the printing industry. Gawd only knows how many trees I've gone through in a lifetime!
