Corie "Truffles" H. from Southern California is what.

Kinda nervous reaching out, but I've reached a breaking point and I'd like some guidance from those who are older and more experienced in the goings-on of the world. Any kind of confirmation that I am not the only atheist in the world would be a wonderful start. Advice on how to deal with anger over religion can come later, after I'm done making a fool of myself with my noobishness.

I have questions! Burning questions! They burn!

Hopefully I can contribute as much as I can in return.

Sounds to me that you are thinking for yourself and not believing everything that people want you to.

With respect to "guidance" and atheism, if that is what you're referring to, I think Atheism, A Very Short Introduction (Baggini) and Atheism, the Case Against God (Smith) are decent books to start with. There are many others, but I'm sure you will find them over time.

For some decent websites, in my opinion (other than this one):

Secular Web

Talk Origins

The Rejection of Pascal's Wager

Why Won't God Heal Amputees

Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (for some comic relief)

Some organizations to consider:

Freedom from Religion Foundation

Americans United (for Separation of Church and State)

American Humanist Association

Secular Coalition of America

Do it, Corie.  There are all kinds of atheists here.

Hi Corie. I'm new here myself, but I'm from the United Kingdom. I have to say it sounds as though atheists in the US have a far more difficult time 'coming out' than we do over here. It sounds as though atheists are really scorned.

I hope you make many friends in the 'enlightened' community!
