This is the final straw. How many died at Ground Zero. I cannot imagine how I would feel knowing that people will be praying at the very site to a god who through their belief of him had a part in this evil event,..if I had lost a loved one.
Is this the beginning of the end.
 What do you think?

Not to mention the fact that our Constitution doesn't protect the right to erect statues or monuments. These kinds of analogies are of an epic-fail nature.
All the time there is prayer there will be conflict.
Just because you pray does not make you a better person. Obviously prayers are not ansered beause I used to pray for peace and the end of poverty, but my prayers were never answered.
I wonder why?
So sorry Adriana, To offend you is the last thing on my mind. What I am trying to say is let us leave hatred behind. I believe in a world where all are presumed equal.
My only thoughts are with the bereaved. I have a cousin in New York and he had friends that died on that day. But as you say it will be a community center, and as long as it remains so it will surely bring all together.
I hope with all my heart that the centre will bring New Yorkers together as one.
Also I was only using Hitler as an example of hate.
We shall wait and see and hope one day everyone will live together in peace, and do hope that this will continue to be a community centre and not be taken over by extremists..

This video explains it all the best.
While there are caring people like yourself Adrienne I am optimistic about the future and agree about the tolerence needed.
I have said before I have many Muslim friends, some of our views may differ in regards to our religious beliefs but we respect each other, and they are all against evil doing. We are all trying to achieve peace and love for all and what a wonderful start to begin this process by being tolerable of others..

I can't believe that this conversation is even happening on here or elsewhere. This really is the beginning of the end... the beginning of the end of freedom of religion in the USA.
Exactly! I shouldn't have to remind anyone here that, seeing as how we are atheists, freedom of religion is kind of a big deal for us. I also shouldn't have to remind anyone here that we atheists are less trusted than Muslims by the American people. The discrimination that is being faced by Muslims could just as easily be directed at us.

I know this quote is cliche but I think it's applicable to this situation as atheists.

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."
Keith Olbermann used that quote in his video about Park51, and it was the perfect application of it.
That this issue is even being debated is completely ridiculous. It doesn't matter if it is two blocks or two miles away. If they want to build the community center on Ground Zero and have the resources to make that happen, so be it. It's just a building.
I know it is just a building but will all be welcome. I hope so and then it will be a building for all to build a new future.
When we stop debating then all will be lost.
