"Marriage is not the only worthy form of family or relationship, and it should not be legally and economically privileged above all others. A majority of people – whatever their sexual and gender identities – do not live in traditional nuclear families. They stand to gain from alternative forms of household recognition beyond one-size-fits-all marriage. For example:
· Single parent households
· Senior citizens living together and serving as each other’s caregivers (think Golden Girls)
· Blended and extended families
· Children being raised in multiple households or by unmarried parents
· Adult children living with and caring for their parents
· Senior citizens who are the primary caregivers to their grandchildren or other relatives
· Close friends or siblings living in non-conjugal relationships and serving as each other’s primary support and caregivers
· Households in which there is more than one conjugal partner
· Care-giving relationships that provide support to those living with extended illness such as HIV/AIDS.
sounds reasonable to me :D

And I agree with you - if the church wants to say that they won't allow people of the same sex to marry within their walls, that's FINE! I won't be getting married in a church either, and I'm straight.
It's about equal rights, really. Straight people can get married and divorced as many times as they want in their lifetime, but gays can't marry even once? Who's ruining the sanctity of marriage? It's not gay people.
Permalink Reply by Steven Broka on May 17, 2011 at 9:25pm I support the civil rights and liberties of all. I think as long as marriage is going to be a government institution, it should either be fully equal, or it should not exist.
I'd prefer non-existence but let's fight the battles we can.
Marriage is a contract which offers benefits to the partners that they would not get with even the best civil union. It cuts through all the red tape and gives automatic rights to aspects of the arrangement.
Since it is required to get a license from the state for marriage then its obviously not a Religious only ceremony.
You can be Religious ( Christian) and believe in and fight for gay marriage, lots of old Religious rules and dogma from the bible have long been put out to pasture.
The best thing about Marriage equality will be the affect it will have in the following years on kids in school. Being gay or having a crush on another boy or girl will no longer have to be a fearful secret. It will be a chance for everyone to be themselves and for kids to be able to say "Yes, I'll go out with you"
