Hello Hope
It maybe cultural as well as religious. But France is secular and does not have this as part of its culture.
Personally I think the Veil is a means of subjugating and controlling women. Most, if not all religions do this to a greater or lesser extent. I have heard women say that it is not and that many like wearing it. However this is usually said in front of their families so they are not speaking freely. When the same religions allow the education of women or let them drive cars or don’t punish them for being raped or widowed, I might then think – Ok girls you are now free to dress as you please so wear one if you want.
Maybe the men should ask their god to help them learn some self control.
I remember once in a medina seeing a woman remove her veil for a minute and thinking what a shame, she was so beautiful. I can still see her face………:-)
Permalink Reply by Hope on April 18, 2011 at 8:04am Aww, you've been in medina!
Oh yea,,, all girls in medina are beautiful... really :)
and yea, I agree with you...also face cover will satisfy the mans jealousy.. I mean this woman is only for him.. he's the one who can look at he face!
Sorry Hope, I wold like to correct what is said. When I said Medina in meant is a in an Arab market place. I think this is the one I mean. It was on christmas day about 10 years ago.
The dark eyes with their secrets get me everytime.. :-)
Permalink Reply by Ed on April 18, 2011 at 8:25am The face shield represents oppression, subjugation, and domination of women by men.
I commend France's position as it will hopefully give these women a chance to experience
some deserved freedom in their life. I don't think the Muslim men in France will force their
women to stay home as this would lower himself to be the one to go to the
markets for food and such. :^ )
Islam is such a power trip.

Permalink Reply by Dustin on April 24, 2011 at 10:28pm actually , if you read a little about the ban , some places say that women are actually staying home and not going out in public. But of course that is the womans CHOICE , right?
Ugh....
Permalink Reply by Mo Trauen on April 18, 2011 at 9:22am Although I don't like the idea of impinging on the religious freedom of others, I have to support France's position. As Reg said, it is often doubtful whether the women wearing the veil actually want to do so--and it is part of a system for subjugating women. I also support it from practical reasons. In a modern society completely covering oneself presents problems with such things as picture ID's, being heard, being able to see vehicular traffic and traffic signs, etc.
Besides, the idea that men can't control themselves sounds like a self-serving lie to me. If it were true, then every nude beach in the world would have had to close by now.
If I saw a naked woman on the street, I would almost certainly stare a bit but I would not feel like her nakedness was my license to rape her. I can't imagine any man feeling that way--unless he has been trained to think that way. THAT is the problem.
Permalink Reply by Hope on April 18, 2011 at 9:33am Yea,me too I dont like the idea impinging on the religious freedom of others,
but I'm glad that they banned the face cover.
This step is a good thing for those women..
Because the face is the identity of woman.. she have to show it in Public..
