Assume 1 billion muslims. (I have seen it as high as 1.8 billion) Assume 10,000 Al Qaeda operatives. (probably a fair bit less, based on recent estimates ). That would mean that 0.001% of all Muslims are members of Al Qaeda. Note this does not mean they have commited any crimes, but are simply “operatives”.

Recent estimates put the number of Catholic priests worldwide at 400,000. If there are only 10 Catholic priests who have sexually abused children, we have 0.002% of all priests. That means it is twice as likely that a Catholic priest has sexually abused a child than a Muslim is a member of Al Qaeda. If 100 Catholic priests have sexually abused children, it is 20 times as likely.
