Hi.  I have known I'm atheist for almost 6 years now, and its a struggle every step of the way trying to get my family to accept that.  They are extremely faithful Mormons.  I wouldn't consider this a problem, but I'm still 17 and under their... parental control?  Yeah, that sounds about right.  I've attempted to have rational discussions with my parents, but they have gone as far as to threaten me with being disowned if I press the matter.  I've tried to be patient and wait it out till I'm 18, but its just gone too far.  How can I go about getting them to understand that forcing your own religion on your children isn't right?  It isn't like I can talk to anyone in my area about this either, as I just moved here but a few months ago and am new to the area.  Help or advice please?

Hello there Jonah

If they are truly hard core religious people, then you must not talk about it. At their age, forget about comprehension, look at the final arguments he gives, disownment.

Don't do like me, I lost all, father, mother and a huge lump of capital, my name isn't there anymore. :)

Of course I am not saying you should abandon your belief, all I am saying is keep it inside when you are around your parents, when you leave explode of joy and make your life your way. Keeping your parents downhearted for your belief isn't worth it, they are not like a girl friend where you CAN choose to ditch for a more comprehensible one. ;)

That's good advice there.
