In a story from timesonline from this July, the science editor writes that evolutionary forces are making women more beautiful and leaving men behind.

"Scientists have found that evolution is driving women to become ever more beautiful, while men remain as aesthetically unappealing as their caveman ancestors," writes Jonathan Leake. "The researchers have found beautiful women have more children than their plainer counterparts and that a higher proportion of those children are female. Those daughters, once adult, also tend to be attractive and so repeat the pattern."

Recent Univeristy of Helskini research (plus some other studies) point to such evolutionary forces not counting for much when it comes to men. "In men ... good looks appear to count for little, with handsome men being no more successful than others in terms of numbers of children. This means there has been little pressure for men’s appearance to evolve," the story states.

In other stories from 2008 based on a widely publicized bit of research, it was shown that "in couples with more attractive husbands, both partners were less supportive of one another" and "couples in which the wife is better looking than her husband are more positive and supportive than other match-ups."

So, I guess the future of humanity is obvious...

Is this what we want for our descendents?...LOL
