I'm not talking about marijuana, I am talking about the hard-core drugs like Meth, Crack, etc. I am against drug usage but I have a question. What do you all think that proper punishment should be for abusers and dealers? (EDIT: I am meaning the ones that commit crimes while on the drugs or the ones that commit crimes to get the drugs. And should the dealers be just as accountable because they provided them with the drug?)
I recently watched a documentary about meth, and the officials in Thailand have simply killed off many of the users.
I personally know quite a few meth addicts here in the U.S. that, after serving their sentence for being "busted", have returned to drug abuse. Obviously, rehab and prison isn't working.
According to the website ncvc.org, 81% of crimes are drug-related. What, in your opinion, is the best solution for punishment and what can our authority figures do to get things under control?

Permalink Reply by Jacob LeMaster on March 1, 2011 at 1:28am Some recreational drugs are just too dangerous to legalize... The creation of such drugs should be illegal definitely, taking the drugs and having the drugs on hand should not but it should lead to investigation of that person to see if they are making them... More so monitoring Addicts of such drugs would be like a suicide watch... making a call to them every once in a while to see if they are okay.. This should be in fact carried out by their families who knows a little bit of attention here and there might make them at least try to quit..
Permalink Reply by T A A on March 1, 2011 at 4:33am There is practically to justification to claim that illicity drugs are inherently "too dangerous" or more dangerous than pharmaceutically provided drugs. Here's just a sampling of numbers:
Meth: Data reported to DAWN by participating medical examiners show that between 1992 and 1994, methamphetamine-related deaths more than doubled, going from 224 to 508 (Table 1). Between 1994 and 1995, overall the number of deaths reported fell by 4 percent (to 487 in 1995).
Pain killers: In 2002, over 16,000 people died in the USA as a result of drug overdoses, with most deaths related to opioids, heroin, and cocaine. Opioids surpassed both cocaine and heroin in extent of involvement in these drug overdoses between 1999 and 2002.
According the The Lancet standards in assessing drug harmfulness (Physical harm to the user, Addictive potential, Overall impact on society)
Ranked, the ten most dangerous substances were deemed to be:
The remaining drugs that were assessed in this study ranked as follows:
It is estimated that tobacco causes 40 percent of all hospital illnesses, while alcohol is involved in more than 50 percent of all visits to hospital emergency rooms.
Being "anti-drug" is no more a valid stance than being "anti-premarital sex".
WOW!
I am only anti-drug to the ones that pose a threat to others when an individual decides to use the drug.

My mother smoked three packs of king size legal cigarettes per day when I lived at home. She harmed me. I spent 17 years of being sick and coughing 6 months per year. My mom was is addicted to cigarettes, and like ex-alcoholics, then are NEVER ex-alcoholics, they are simply on and off the wagon. Addictions are for life.
So look at addictions, don't look at drugs, drug abuse is but a symptom of addictive personalities, and addictive personalities are strained by the mere fact of existence.

Permalink Reply by TDM on March 16, 2011 at 10:17pm but its not the drugs that you should be against its the behavior ... fools are fools on drugs or not. the war on drugs or to be anti drug is a pipe dream. in fact a person who has the guts to try something new should never be put down or else we would still be in the stone age. anti drug sounds so Nancey Regan
The war on drugs is how the right works hard at regulating the left. The consumption of a chemical in order to produce a predecided affect on the brain should be a fundamental right of a citizen of this country, however its not.
