Permalink Reply by Shabaka Tecumseh on April 30, 2012 at 2:14pm stop it..you are as white as anyone else whose falls under the social construction of what is white..
Permalink Reply by Gabriela Menicucci on April 30, 2012 at 2:46pm Shabaka, I have african blood (from Congo, not some mulatto from USA). So trust me I know what Im talking about when I say I'm not white. Probably I have more black DNA than you, because I read on your profile that you are mixed.
Permalink Reply by Shabaka Tecumseh on April 30, 2012 at 2:55pm and I have European blood from France, so what? Race is a social contruction..culture isn't..and where did I ever mention anything about a European "race?" of white people?
Permalink Reply by Gabriela Menicucci on April 30, 2012 at 3:02pm If you are talking about "racism" you are talking about race. When you are all angry about a white woman being called "perfectly symmetrical" you are talking about race. When you claim the Golden Ratio Rule is a white man construction you are talking about race. But you don't even know what race is. Keep labelling people, I bet you will live a happy life that way.
Permalink Reply by Gabriela Menicucci on April 30, 2012 at 3:26pm .I will agree that the media sells us an image of what beauty should be, and that image is unrealistic and un reachable to 99% of the population (unless we turn to plastic surgery and anorexia). I also noticed that the role models for black women are women that a) are not 100% black (Alicia Keys, Halle Berry, Mariah Carey, Nicky Minaj, Rihanna) or b) are desperate to look white (Beyonce, Janette Jackson). This is sad. But the women that have a good brain know that this is only to please a wide audience, to be liked by the occidental world where the majority of people are white, or mixed themselves. Ignorant people are the ones that hate their roots, and find ugly that which really represents them. Men that want this type of women just because of what media say and impress other males, are not very bright. This is the way goverments control people, and lets face it average people don't read, dont have a slight idea of culture, history and so on. They get pleased by watching this garbage on tv. They are so empty that this fills them up. Sad. But extraordinary people see past all this BS, and know real natural beauty when is in front of them.
However the Golden Ratio Rule applies to black people aswell (Denzel Washington; does he looks caucasian to you?). Is not about beauty is about symmetry. We both agreed that neither Denzel or Colgate are the most beautiful, sexy, cute, omg-s/he-is-so-hot individuals, their faces are just very well proportionated. That's it.
This scientists are not suggesting us to go and meassure the face of every person we date to see if they are beautiful. And even if that's what their trying to sell us, above average intelligent people wont fall for it. Awesome people think for themselves and don't worry a lot about the rest of slackers.

It's "sad" because "All scientist agreed"...
Permalink Reply by Gabriela Menicucci on April 30, 2012 at 3:48pm Scientists are not telling us that disguising as a white person is attractive, Hollywood is. Why? Because this "stars" sell their products to Western societies, where most of the people is white and mixed, therefore the public needs to identify with the product. Westerners have the highest acquisitive power, this makes the entertainment companies sell "products" that their main consumers will like. Do you think Shakira would have become famous in the west if she had kept her black hair? No, she turned into a Britney Spears with an accent to be "somebody".
There are professionals in the field of evolutionary psychology that have a very different and more realistic theory on what is that we find attractive. However, it doesn't have the popularity as this golden ratio rule does because there are ignorants that still resist to accept evolution.
If symmetry was the deciding factor in attraction, looking at how scarce symmetrical people all (in all races), then we would all be symmetric since only symmetrical people would have been successful at reproduction their genes would be dominant, or we would be all extincted.
So this symmetry thing is just a particle in the vast complexity of how attraction works.
Permalink Reply by Shabaka Tecumseh on April 30, 2012 at 6:43pm OK Gabriela..what you said has validity but racism doesn't make any sense, like "all scientist agreed" (Euro) that Colgate (another Euro) has the PERFECT face because symmetry is the standard of beauty. Here I believe that Euro culture thinks that symmetrical things are most beautiful..but it makes sense when I think of how the European see the world.
Marching is "syncro-symmetrical" in a way, so is the ballet, and the symphony.

I did check him out. He's not much of a scholar. Arguments from statuary are notoriously bad because it took a long time for art anywhere in the world to become realistic. Unless you think Egyptians lived in Flatland or that in the old days reality didn't have perspective. Art is subject to stylistic considerations having almost nothing to do with realism. Take, for example, how Chinese artists depicted lions (this is just one example, but it's typical):
Permalink Reply by Shabaka Tecumseh on April 30, 2012 at 2:18pm so are you saying the Olmec heads are caricatures or animals?..lol no matter some Europeans say the pyramids were built by aliens.. BTW are there lions in China? If not, why would they revere them unless they had some historical experience with them? Art immitates life..
