Two films in particular got a lot of awards at the last Oscars ceremony: Argo and Silver Linings Playbook.

I've seen both and both seemed to me to be little more than run-of-the-mill HBO movies. Meanwhile, astounding films like Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, and Lincoln got relatively few awards. Granted, they did get a few major awards. Best Actor (for the third time) for Daniel Day Lewis's role in Lincoln, and Ang Lee for Best Director (Life of Pi).

Argo better than Zero Dark Thirty or Lincoln? Really?

Silver Linings Playbook better than Django Unchained or Les Miserables

I don't think so.

Have the Oscars devolved into irrelevance due to its own onanism and inside baseball?
