This is my first day on TA and my first discussion. I've thought for quite a while that this world has several problems and a large one is religion. Religion in itself might not be inherently evil, but the ideas that are taught and the subsequent thought processes that result for some people lead them to a simple conclusion, "I can do what I want and be forgiven." This, as I'm sure you can see, would allow someone to be unethical, unhappy, not friendly, and only look out for number one. I'm not saying that religion is the main problem, but it's pretty big.

I also think that if we can let go of our pride, accept being wrong, and compassionate to humanity that we could succeed at cleaning our planet and perhaps work towards a lofty goal of exploring space more readily.

To continue, I'd like those interested to discuss this idea:

If the world were to lose religion and everyone be polite to others, fair, and honest, could the people of Earth unite and succeed in setting goals as a species to be more environmentally friendly and promote space travel.

Thank you for your opinion and have a nice day!

Religion's not the only obstacle to doing those things, but one belief that really should go is the belief that this planet was created for us by a being who cares for humans above all other life. Thinking that, it's only natural to assume this being will protect the planet and stop things getting too bad. If more people realised that it's up to us to clean up the planet and find a way off at some point in order to save our species, more might get done.
