UPDATE: THE CONTEST IS NOW LIVE! Copy and paste the following tweet to enter the contest: "I'm a member of @ThinkAtheist & I want a copy of John Loftus' The End of Christianity http://bit.ly/pgxBD7 #atheism #skepticism #christianity"

Alright, we're at the point now where we can start to release the details of our newest contest! Three Think Atheist members will win a signed copy of Mr. John Loftus's new anthology The End of Christianity. (Amazon, Amazon UK, B&N)
Mr. Loftus is the founder of the fantastic site Debunking Christianity. He has joined us on the show before and joins us again for a short segment on the book. In addition, we have had a few of the other contributors to the book join us, including Valerie Tarico (Trusting Doubt), Robert Price (Incredible Shrinking Son of Man), Richard Carrier (Sense and Goodness Without God), Matt McCormick (Atheism: Proving The Negative), and now Hector Avalos (The End of Biblical Studies), plus we'll be airing our interview with another contributor, Jaco Gericke, soon! Make sure you check out our interviews with them and consider purchasing their books!
The description of The End of Christianity reads as follows:
In this successor volume to his critically acclaimed first anthology, The Christian Delusion: Why Faith Fails, John Loftus—a former minister and now a leading atheist spokesperson—has assembled a stellar group of respected scholars to continue the critique of Christianity begun in the first volume. The contributors include Victor Stenger, Robert Price, Hector Avalos, Richard Carrier, Keith Parsons, David Eller, and others. Loftus is the author of Why I Became an Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity. Taken together, the Loftus trilogy poses formidable challenges to claims for the rationality of the Christian faith. The first part considers the wildly improbable nature of basic Christian tenets; the lack of agreement among diverse Christian sects regarding the essential Christian message; and a counter argument to the popular Christian claim that it was incredible that the Christian faith arose if it wasn't true in the first place.
The second part analyzes the role of ancient Near Eastern myth in the creation of the Bible, revealing that the image of God depicted there is a projection of evolving human needs during the Iron Age beginning with polytheism.
In the third part, the contributors critique the Christian doctrines of the atonement, hell, and the resurrection.
The final part considers the incompatibility of religion and science, reviews claims for intelligent design and life after death, and advances the proposition that science can help discover morality.
Students and scholars with an interest in the philosophy of religion will find this compilation of incisive critical essays to be intellectually stimulating and deeply thought provoking.

Permalink Reply by Akshay Bist on August 6, 2011 at 9:27am I've been watching the @ThinkAtheist search term for a while today, and I see there are some who are encountering the "141 Problem" and some who aren't; in addition, people who are not using Twitter to tweet are having parts of the tweet changed automatically by their software or service, not enough to disqualify them I hope, but something to keep in mind for the future.
Permalink Reply by Jeremy Lester on August 5, 2011 at 4:13pm Checked it too. I'm getting 141 characters. No double spaces, no quotes. Hm.
Permalink Reply by Nelson on August 5, 2011 at 4:20pm thanks for the feedback Jeremy. is that on the old or the new Twitter? can you see if Nathan's solution works for you too? if you're using the old Twitter, switch to the new and see if the problem disappears.

Permalink Reply by Nelson on August 6, 2011 at 2:48am very strange. thanks for following up with your experience. glad you were able to enter in the end!
Permalink Reply by Melody A. Rogers on August 5, 2011 at 9:46pm The "http://" was automaticall taken off, so I guess that's why it let me post, but I'm not sure I still qualify that way.
Regardless, hurray for this contest..!
Permalink Reply by Rosemary LYNDALL WEMM on August 6, 2011 at 2:32am Please can we have a competition that does not require that someone has a Twitter account.
Permalink Reply by Nelson on August 6, 2011 at 2:45am there's no in principle objection to that happening. it's just that there isn't another way that people can easily enter the contest, that we can track the entries, and that the contest would garner publicity for the book that is the subject of the contest- or at least, no other way we can think of. such a thing used to be possible on Facebook but then they apparently changed their policies.
but, anyway, given how easy it is to quickly set up a Twitter account, i would recommend that someone simply create a Twitter account for the purposes of these contests. we've been having one a month so far. and they're going to continue. i already have one set up for September. indeed, a person that entered one of our previous contests did so after creating their Twitter account for the express purpose of entering the contest..... and won!
but if anyone has any suggestions i'm certainly open to them. but let's not have this thread be hijacked with discussions of possible future contest scenarios. email me at Nelson@iThinkAtheist.com if anyone has any suggestions.
thanks!
Permalink Reply by Nathan Hevenstone on August 6, 2011 at 1:57pm Actually, I think it may be a good idea to offer an alternative way to enter. Perhaps via Facebook, or maybe a separate thread started for people who don't have Twitter... all they have to do is post in the thread... or something similar.
Some people are not on Twitter because they just don't see the point. For the first year Twitter existed, I refused to get on. I thought it was incredibly stupid, and I already had Facebook.
It was another contest (for a Jimmy Page replica guitar), that finally made me sign up for Twitter, and now I love it (though no, I unfortunately did not win the guitar... :( ).
Suffice it to say, I understand why some people don't have Twitter. Especially if you already have MySpace, and Facebook, and now Google + (and even if you don't have those), Twitter can seem amazingly pointless and useless, and nothing more than a frankly idiotic waste of time.
So, perhaps, for future contests, accommodations could be made for those who don't have/want a Twitter account, if only because their dislike or indifference to Twitter should not disqualify them from trying to win the contests.
