As this is my first post, I want to shortly hello to you all. I found TA multiple times with stumble upon and today I decided to join you.
When you hear on the internet about christians in the USA, you will encounter that christianity is almost everywhere. Like "in God we trust", "one nation under god". Most of the people seem to go to the church very often. Christian believe also seems to be an important thing in presidential elections. They seem to be very fundamentalistic. There are things like anti-gay protests and so on, people who belief everything what's in the bible.
And there seems to be a huge gap between religions and science: According to some sites on the internet most of the US doesn't seem to belief in evolution. On the other hand you have people like Neil DeGrasse Tyson who is an openly scientific and atheist person.
Do you think this all is true? Or are those fundamentalistic christians a minority, which is heavily overrepresented on the internet?
I ask especially because this seems to be very different in Germany. We do have many christians, but almost none of them would be against gay-marriage, or wouldn't believe in evolution. They wouldn't take the stories in the bible serious, but more as "lessons" that teach you something.
