Atheists Should Leave America?
One gas station owner here in South Carolina has a digital readout on all of his pumps that says "One nation under god. If you don't like it, LEAVE!" Sadly, it isn't the first time we've heard this. Many Americans also want immigrants and gays to leave as well.

What is with my state? Just last month, we had a woman hang and burn a dog because it chewed her bible. It really pissed me off and I started a petition because I fear that she is going to receive undeserved lenience. I've heard people around here say things like "what if god really did tell her to do it?". I can't help but think she will be sentenced with the same delusion in mind. The ignorance here amazes me. Back to the subject. Christians really believe that they run this country. It is aparent that they want atheists out of it. How can we show them that this is not a Christian nation? We have quoted statements from our founding fathers, we have argued about separation of church and state, we have rejected creationism in our classrooms, and Obama has even stated on several occasions that this is not a Christian Nation. What else can we do to convince Christians that this is a country for everyone?

Atheist pride is the technology we surround ourselves with, spawned from the annals of science dispite the influence of organized religion. We don't need a parade, our strategy is demonstrably winning out despite the occational tactical victories gained by the religious.

Really? You don't think those religious nut-jobs don't fully enjoy technology? You don't think the fundamentalists who speak out about the "evils of science" every single day of their lives don't use television to get their message out to all their sheeple? Drive some of the nicest cars that science has put together to some of the nicest television stations that science has been able to create? Enjoy some of the nicest clothes that science has devised?
You don't think that those religitards don't USE SCIENCE TO DEBATE SCIENCE? I certainly do, because I have been in those conversations. The very existence of science and the products of science do not change the way a 14 year old thinks about god. And it certainly doesn't do anything to help when that person feels like they have to go along with all the religitards, when they feel outnumbered and alone.
I'm sorry, Arcus, but you are looking for the cheap, easy way out and, if we all felt that way, this would be a theocracy, not a republic. You are obviously one of those disappointing passive atheists that have no idea how powerful emotions are in driving people's "belief systems".

I have no problem being an 'atheist missionary', and do not spend long with people I befriend to let them know what my opinions and what my opinion of their opinion is, I would even join in a parade.
I'm saying we don't need it (in an indirect way) because, in the long run, we are winning. Sorry for not making that clear.
One thing though, we have at least forced them to attempt to justify their beliefs with science. It's a step on the road when they at least attempt to communicate on level ground.

Our ideas are superior, and we can rely on that. We should never forget, however, that the religious are past masters of the dirty war. When it comes to fighting us, they have NO ethics at all and will use every trick in the book.

There are places in America where atheists and agnostics are more common and accepted. TA members who live in the bible belt might want to consider moving to those places. I know that is a hardship they shouldn't have to endure, but it can be worth it.

Like I said elsewhere, I have heard it often as well because of my bible belt background. My usual response is to point out that the U.S. is a free country and that people who don't want to live in a free country should leave. I sometimes suggest that these people go to Iran or some such place where there is no separation of church and state. The people who say this sort of thing are always Christian, so the suggestion they move to Iran should drive the point home--if they were capable of thinking about it objectively. I find that the implication either goes completely over their heads or makes them angry, which is, to me, yet more evidence that religion is based partly on stupidity and partly on insane pride.
