One gas station owner here in South Carolina has a digital readout on all of his pumps that says "One nation under god. If you don't like it, LEAVE!" Sadly, it isn't the first time we've heard this. Many Americans also want immigrants and gays to leave as well.

What is with my state? Just last month, we had a woman hang and burn a dog because it chewed her bible. It really pissed me off and I started a petition because I fear that she is going to receive undeserved lenience. I've heard people around here say things like "what if god really did tell her to do it?". I can't help but think she will be sentenced with the same delusion in mind. The ignorance here amazes me. Btw, if you haven't signed my petition, here is the link http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/woman-hangs-and-burns-dog/
Back to the subject. Christians really believe that they run this country. It is aparent that they want atheists out of it. How can we show them that this is not a Christian nation? We have quoted statements from our founding fathers, we have argued about separation of church and state, we have rejected creationism in our classrooms, and Obama has even stated on several occasions that this is not a Christian Nation. What else can we do to convince Christians that this is a country for everyone?

Permalink Reply by Keith Pinster on May 7, 2011 at 9:57pm I was referring to the "the second highest religious demographic in America is non-religious with 15% of the population falling under it" mentioned by Akshay. Basically, the people who would be horrified if the rights that THEY cherished were taken away, but don't really feel like getting involved until then, and/or when rights that other people cherish are stripped from them.
The people that ARE rallying, are the people who actively WANT to strip rights away from the people that they "disapprove" of (i.e. the religious). We have the constitution on our side, so it's actually easier, cheaper, and quicker for us to win, if and when we actually put any effort into it. It's just a matter rallying our troops.

Permalink Reply by Arcus on May 7, 2011 at 4:13am Preferably not, just the people. I have no use for means of uncreative destruction, but I would like a system that ensured that the people who indeed to don't have access either.
Hopefully enough sane people will stay behind to reel in the crazies, they certainly have my support and admiration, but you have my full understanding and sympathy if you don't want to be among them.
Incidently, if someone would ever use such an idiotic argument as 'You are an atheist, therefore you should leave Europe', I can hopefully seek asylum from that loonacy and poorly though out logic in the US. (funny how much fewer in Europe would say something as stupid, perhaps it's correlated to most being atheists..)
It should be said I was being egotistical in the first post, and trying to do so with humor. I prefer to surround myself with non-violent anti-religious atheists, which are not an uncommon subset of atheists. Therefore, more atheists the better for me as a social animal.
Lastly, I still want to reserve the right to say to anyone: IFF you condone acts of violence based on religion or ideals, renounce that part or prepare to be removed from the society I create around myself.

Crap! I am all for it but I have issues with learning a new language. I have a hard enough time with English. I love my country (US) but what it was founding on (US Constitution, Democracy, freedom for all, ect..) and what it has the potential to be.
I just don't get why the religious nut jobs want to ruin it for us all. Do they really think (Ha! I know let me finish) that a Theocracy would be so much better?
