There are a lot of religious songs out there, just far too many, but very few explicitly godless songs. The only one I've heard is Imagine by John Lennon.
I thought maybe we can all get together & write a few godless song lyrics.
But first, the rules.

(pardon me for not posting lyrics; that's a great idea!)

But thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out on youtube

Permalink Reply by noisician on June 10, 2011 at 11:47am At the risk of continuing to move off topic... if you really haven't heard any other atheistic songs, check out:
But there are also a lot of heavy metal and punk songs that are anti-religious (not that you'll always be able to understand the lyrics!). Check out the punk band Bad Religion for some intelligent and intelligible lyrics, for example their song "Atheist Peace".
How about this!!
God to me is an unaborted child, Abandoned on the streets to grow up wild
God to me is a child that's poor, With a pimping dad and a mom who's a whore
Permalink Reply by oneinfinity on June 10, 2011 at 7:41pm this could turn out to be an interesting thread.
BTW Imagine is my anthem!!
(Also check out Armageddon Days are Here (Again), by The The (1989). and of course Freewill, by RUSH (1980))
here's a start on something..don't ask me what lol:
God is dead, Nietzsche said, shall we take his place?
That game is played, that Moses made,
And science has filled that space.
God is dead, Nietzsche said, how shall we find our way?
The sophists doubt what it's all about
cold comfort for the lion's prey.

Permalink Reply by Akshay Bist on June 10, 2011 at 8:45pm Maybe, you need to go into html mode before you paste it.

St. Peter's Cathedral
St. Peter's cathedral
Built of granite
Ever fearful of the answer
When the candle in the tunnel
Is flickering and sputters
And fading faster
It's only then that you will know
What lies above or down below
Or if these fictions only prove
How much you've really got to lose
At St. Peter's cathedral
There is stained glass
There's a steeple that is reaching
Up towards the heavens
Such ambition never failing to amaze me
It's either quite a master plan
Or just chemicals that help us understand
That when our hearts stop ticking
This is the end
And there's nothing past this
There's nothing past this
There's nothing past this
There's nothing past this
There's nothing past this
There's nothing past this
There's nothing past this
There's nothing past this

I don't want to live forever
Alone except for the sound of the rain
I want to experiance life in all it's glory
I don't want to live in time
Pacified by the silence
I want to be out there at the center of everything
Alive at the center of everything
Under the sun is where I want to be
Under the sun
I don't want to live a future
Blinded by eternal faith
I'd rather live five minutes, five minutes in the real world
I don't want to come again
I don't need a second chance
I believe in one life, one life, one life only
Alive at the center of everything
Under the sun is where I want to be
Under, under the sun
Under the sun
I don't want to live if I can't have life
I don't want life if I can't live
I just want to run beneath the heavens
Over the ocean
Under the sun
Under the sun is where I want to be
Under, under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
Under the sun
