I think it's a good idea. Maybe they will loosen up a bit.

Do you think the conservatives will be tolerant or will they attack?

all I can say from experience, if you're friendly, most people will react accordingly, unless they are just unfriendly by nature.

The key here is simply to accept each others beliefs or the lack thereof, agree to disagree on some points, focus on similarities than differences.

I've noticed that many atheists who have de-converted from some religion feel the urge to de-convert others, which is, from an outside perspective, pretty much the same thing religious would do, only the other way round. At the end of the day, it's only the people themselves what they make of their lives, intervention is only needed when others get harmed (like children in danger of dying from "faith-healing" and other crazy stuff). Politics can still be something people can agree or disagree regardless their (non)religiousity.

"CPAC's mission is to be an umbrella for conservative organizations that advance liberty, traditional values and our national defense," said Perkins, who spokes at CPAC in 2012. "Does the American Conservative Union really think the liberties and values they seek to preserve can be maintained when they partner with individuals and organizations that are undermining the understanding that our liberties come from God? Thomas Jefferson warned against such nonsense."

Except that he didn't.  At least he didn't warn that rights coming from Jebus was nonsense; Jefferson was a deist, his choice of words in referring to god indicate this clearly to those who recognize the signs.

Update:  CPAC has withdrawn its invitation to AA.

To be sure CPAC was founded by the Xian right so this last is to be expected of them.  The astonishing thing (to me) is that they extended the invitation in the first place, not that they later withdrew it.

Well, that end was both swift and inevitable.
