There has been a post about this on another site, and if I remember correctly, atheists were more likely to be cat people. There were theories on why that is, but just out of curiousity, how does everyone on this site feel?
Personally, I love all animals, but if I must pick one, I would say I am more of a cat person. They are not as needy as dogs and you have to earn their love and trust. But they both make great pets :)

Dogs. Without a doubt! They're so loveable and loyal, as the saying goes. Cats are...cats. They want you for your warmth and food. They're cold a sly. Don't give me that 'independent' rubbish ;p
I know they're generalisations but that's essentially why we like what we do.
Here's my two - they're such a married couple.
Permalink Reply by Tammy on February 7, 2011 at 6:46pm I love both on equal grounds but I prefer the independence of a cat. That and I don't have to stress out every time I have to leave town for a week or something. They have a constant supply of water since its hooked into my tap, they have a feeder thing that holds a few weeks worth of food, and their letter box is an auto mated death star.

My older cat Yoda. I got him from my brother when his new wife tried to throw him out because she hates animals.
My other cat Bender. We got him from the pound where he almost died from Kennel Cough.
Permalink Reply by Hank Ronan on February 8, 2011 at 1:15am I wouldn't characterize myself as either a cat or a dog person. I've had both (and ferrets and gerbils). My cats have been independent, outdoorsy, and have earned their keep by keeping the rodents under control. They grow up to become useful members of the household. My dogs, on the other hand, are like babies that never grow up. Current dog is a Beagle, a very enthusiastic animal who can't be left unattended for any length of time. She can't be outside untethered, she'll pick up a scent and be off after it, and you can't train that out of them. She has to be fed twice a day, walked at least thrice a day or she'll poop whenever and wherever. Finally, Dog is god spelled backwards. WTF is a tac?
Permalink Reply by Lara Kearns on February 8, 2011 at 1:18am If I have to choose between the two, I prefer cats. Grew up with them my whole life, I like their independance, unlike a dog which is like a child.
But where was the post? What did they say why do atheists prefer cats, according to them?
