There has been a post about this on another site, and if I remember correctly, atheists were more likely to be cat people. There were theories on why that is, but just out of curiousity, how does everyone on this site feel?
Personally, I love all animals, but if I must pick one, I would say I am more of a cat person. They are not as needy as dogs and you have to earn their love and trust. But they both make great pets :)

Permalink Reply by Roger tholen on February 5, 2011 at 8:44pm I agree that some cats can be very loving like dogs can. I had a cat named Molly a few years ago. She would get so excited when I would come home. She never left my side. When I was leaving the house one day, she went outside. I wasn't gonna be gone long so I didn't mind letting her stay out for a little while. I never could find her after that. My neighbor had said before that he absolutely hated cats. I think he may have shot her. It is very likely if she walked on his property. I wish I could've known he'd be that way. I can still think of her and makes me wanna cry. She was and still is, by far, my favorite. I miss her with all of my heart.
Permalink Reply by T A A on February 6, 2011 at 2:01am my cat too. He freely chose indoor/outdoor time at his leisure. I had an apartment on the 2nd floor and always left the window open. I worked at the movie theatre back then and used to come home usually at 23:30, but sometimes at 3:30 am, after bar closure. Every single night, as I turned the corner of my street and called out his name, he would come galloping down the street to greet me. Our home was 5 houses from the corner. I'm a bit of a Ceasar Milan style person, and I raised that putty cat in that spirit. I think that's why my cat offered the best of both worlds. sigh...
I also hitch-hiked many thousands of miles with him, and let him on a long leash to go to the bathroom :)
I've been too much of a nomad the past 20 years to have any pets. I house-sit a lot tho so I have pet time vicariously through other's pets :)
Permalink Reply by Mo Trauen on February 6, 2011 at 9:12am It's amazing to me how it is so acceptable to hate cats. People openly speak about going out of their way to kill them. One thing I have noticed is that such people are always religious--at least, in my experience.
Permalink Reply by T A A on February 6, 2011 at 11:11am LOL. I used to have a cat so mean that he would try to knock my grandmother's walker out from under her. He hated that walker. He would slap it hard, repeatedly, hissing and spitting at it everytime she got too close to him.
OMG, we used to laugh at that, even grama laughed.
I've noticed it too. There is a mega church not far from my town called Newspring. The pastor there talks about how cats are from satan and they serve no purpose. He jokes a lot about it but he really does dislike cats. I've had friends that used to drag me to this church when I was in the agnostic category. This pastor seemed to have a ton of groupies and it was disturbing.
