And if they are having a bad day my son will just stay in his room, and my stepson would prefer not to go to school as he spends the day trying to controle his vocal ticks and that is just so exhausting. When as a parent you try to explain I have found people to be very rude about it and you don't tell them your child is on meds as the ignorant ones are the ones that will make you out to be a bad parent if they hear that your child is on anything like Ritalin. Best place is to find forums where you can talk to other parents going through the same. I find that in my country a lot of the medical aids don;t cover therapy or meds. And if they do you have to belong to them for a year before you can claim. I can not afford to pay for therapy, meds and a medical aid for a year that does not cover my son, so I have to go it alone. Then you have to wrok through the state you can have gaps of up to 3 months between appointments with psychiatrist and psychologist, we went in FEb and our next appointment is only end of April. Then we have times where meds are not available and you can wait up to two weaks befor you can get refill. Education wise there is a few schools that cater for the children but not everybody can afford this and then private school is an option smaller classes but it also cost a lot of money. Mainstream schooling is your only option left, most teachers don't know how to deal with these children and you have them in a class with 32 to 40 children. Bit of a nightmare .My son has a very high IQ but he also has ADHD , Tics and Tourettes and OCD. He did not ask for this and it is not in his imagination. These children also experience pain because of there tics as there constantly pulling muscles. Not something you want to live with.
I dont know what the solution could be for these problems ... It just feels like a helpless and hopeless situation.
I can only shake my head in despair over it ...

I have become very volcal aabout it and speak up, I don't care what people think or say. And you do what possible to make a difference in their lives. The more people speak up the more aware people will become, it is up to us to educate the peole around us.
