Good day members of Thinkatheist.com.
I'm Pætur W. Simonsen. Don't focus too much on my name, you probably won't be able to pronounce it.
I'm currently living happily in the cold north, also called The Faroe Islands, not exactly a secular nation, but I manage to survive. The Faroe Islands belong to Denmark, and because the constitution of Denmark is influenced by Christianity, so are The Faroe Islands.
Through my 20 years I've been a believer for 13 years, an agnostic for 6 years and an atheist for one year.
The reason why I left Christianity is a long and dull story, but I'll share it with you anyway.
Being brought up in a christian family, I quickly labeled myself as a christian. I did not read the bible and I knew just about nothing about this deity that I was worshiping, but I did it anyways. At the age of nine I went to a bible camp for a week. I quickly fell in love with the people in the camp and their kind behavior. I went to the same bible camp each summer, each year. When I was 13 I started reading the bible, which was the turning point. I have always been cherished by teachers for my intellect, my skepticism and my reason, which also happened to be what convinced me that there was something seriously wrong with Yahweh. This scared me senseless.
I had to be misinterpreting something. The god of my parents and their parents and so on, couldn't possibly be Yahweh.
So I kept on going to bible camp, but for the first time, it was not to mingle with other people. It was to convince myself that I had misinterpreted something. Nobody ever gave me any logical proof of God, nobody managed to justify Yahweh's terrible deeds in the bible, such as the flood, the plagues, Job, Lot's daughters and so on.
I attended bible camp each year until I was 18. I was still a "closet agnostic". This was the year when I went to 'Studentaskúlin í Hoydølum'. I don't really know what the school is called in English. I loved going to school there, because it was instantly clear, that I was not the only one who did not believe in a deity.
I am 20 years old now, and I am, what most call, a militiant atheist. I'm still in the mentioned school, majoring in history Faroese, Danish and English literature and history. I'm also studying religion (mainly the monotheistic religions) and psychology.
When I'm done in school I'm moving to Denmark to attend a martial arts academy, where I'll learn Judo and Karate. I'll also learn to massage (Shut up, it's charming) and I'll study the Japanese language which will help me later.
When I've been there for a year, I'm going to Aberdeen to study religion. Which I'm really looking forward to.
I don't really know what I am going to do after that. Possibly work as a carpenter again for a year, then go travel... Who knows?
I want to apologize in advance if my thread is filled with misspellings. English is my third language, so bear with me.

I didn't know the Faroese, or the Danish for that matter, were all that religious. Guess I'm learning things all the time.
I'd say welcome, but you've been on here for longer than I have.
Btw congratulations on Gunnar Nielsen becoming your first premiership footballer last year. Only part of one game thus far, but still. ;)

It's just for a year, but it's more than nothing. There's an MMA gym nearby, which is pretty great too.
Yeah, and there are loads of McDojos as well, which increases the chances of getting a shitty teacher.
