Sorry for the lack of a link I'll provide later when I'm not on my cel. But recently scientists have created an artificial heart that pumps blood steadily through the body. Meaning...
The bearer of this electronic heart does not have a heartbeat. So how do you define his death? Stop of blood flow I guess? Brain activity? Has anyone else heard that apparently after you die your brain activity continues for a few minutes?

The point at which true irreversible death occurs is brain death. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_death

A heart is stopped, you can make it go again in some circumstances. A brain ceases activity and you cannot make it go again.

"Has anyone else heard that apparently after you die your brain activity continues for a few minutes?" No. But I can understand that the sentences original intention was probably thus:

"Has anyone else heard that apparently after  you die your heart stops beating your brain activity continues for a few minutes?"

I hope that this helps.

Yeah.. that's what I meant... thanks. :D

Yeah i've heard it was up to 4 minutes the brain continues to function til it runs out of oxygen...

You're welcome.

OK I had a little dig for you and found this:

"Without special treatment after circulation is restarted, full recovery of the brain after more than 3 minutes of clinical death at normal body temperature is rare"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_death and I read the abstracts of Wikipedia's references - seems legit.

"I think, therefore I am" -  René Descartes

I don't think a person is 'dead' when their heart stops, but when their brain is unrecoverable
