Every organization has shortcomings as they are run by human beings. Now,to the criers over Pat Roberston's remarks(it's an old story-he should have left it alone)how much have you given to the poor? How much time have you spent helping the disadvantaged?
Knowing the Club and being one of it's workers and contributors and knowing others who work for them,I can say first hand millions around the world have been helped.
We have dug countless wells-which to us is not important, but to them it's life!-taught them to grow food -providng plowing and farm equipment-seeds,etc.,given clothes( we went straight to a dept.store and bought off the rack!)-new ones, home building-not 5 bedroon US style homes ,but safe and comfortable, and no charge to the poor, food, medical supplies, and on and on it goes. Graham's org.does the same.
It has been a joy to see poor children as I have handed them pounds and pounds of food and clothing and,of course toys too!
Some Haitian (the Club has been helping Haiti for some time, but we don't crow all over unless I can't stand the negative comments from those who don't know what they are talking about);widows and their children -some not knowing if their husbands were alive or not- some were killed by some gov.,have been helped by us in many ways.

I and others with me have given both food, clothes, money and bought their nice hand made crafts to help them.
I would that the great atheist community should do as well or better. It's not how much you give I know, but help in some way as an organiztion. These people need our help.
Dr.Pat -and I don't agree with him on that remark-has a right to believe anything he wants and say it,but I know personally that he has given millions to the poor. He has organized a ton of relief efforts over the years after disasters. As he has gotten older younger aides are doing this now,but he and his wife and son give of their wealth to the poor in many different ways. I know his son and others that work with him.
In spite of some of his public remarks, which I don't concur with-he has faults like anyone else-he has been very, very generous and compassionate with the poor as the Book commands us to do. I know people are looking to jump on them and they have that right to do so,but at least be fair and recognize the work I and others are doing behind the scenes and news!Thank you.

Oh, and good on your orphan work!!!
Sorry, but the 700 club is a joke.
I'd much rather donate to and volunteer for an organization that is more respectable, more open-minded, and less inspiring of- lets just say- crazy people who believe that they can shoot down abortion doctors as an act of god and goodness for the world.
If sending 290 tons of food and supplies last week is a joke then tell that to those poor injured folks.
You are like the 'Christains' you so despise as you are prejudiced because they are in your view 'religious'and believe in "god, etc."This would hold even if Robertson didn't say anything.
Both sides are biased so don't get self righteous on me here.

You don't think that 'crazy' atheists(even though they are opposed to such things as a whole-they can't defend every nut screw that may kill someone) have ever killed someone before?

Don't level all your foolish venom on the whole of Christains who feel that man was a sociopath. The law doesn't so neither should you.
Because Stalin and his government -I know his life and gov.well-was an atheist responsible for millions of people being killed either by his direct orders or because of his policies mean that all atheists are like this or would do such as thing? NO! Atheists abhor such crimes and people. You lay the blame on Stalin and those that helped him commit such crimes.

Anyone may believe anything they want or take any stand even if doesn't jibe with your views. It's our right in this country. But no one is to harm anyone with those contrary views. We are to defend their rights as well as our rights.
If some psycho head murders someone like the poor doctor in question for any reason he or she should be be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Well put, Jen.
Agreed...
Perfect.
She didn't say anything about being 'biased'-you are correct- just that the "700 Club is a "JOKE!"
Then out of nowhere she starts in on that psycho killing that doctor. What's that? Why bring that into a discussion about Pat Robertson's admittedly ill conceived remarks as this was the theme of the messages in the beginning at least. The Club's member's all are against killing people.
Because some are against abortion (many modify this stance-as in case of rape for example-of course the woman must make her own final decision-that's the law) for any reason does not mean they should in anyway be held 'responsible' for some one celled creature that murdered a doctor.

Anybody knows to donate to an organization they are 'comfortable' with so? I didn't think an organization should be called a "joke"that has helped thousands keep their homes, save single mother's and their children by providing aid, assisting alcoholics, drug users to now lead a productive life by rendering financial assistance and a college education that doesn't have to ever be paid back, helping and financing orphanges around the world, etc, etc. This includes thousands of tons of food and supplies of all kinds around the world to the poor. Besides the 290 tons to Haiti much more will being sent soon.
Even though I am not an atheist I firmly and loudly applaud any atheist organization that helps those in need. I will not call them a 'joke' because I disagree with their philosophy, etc. Their works are good. Many good atheists/agnostics help others in need-around the world. They don't just sit around in front of a computer and talk and criticise whatever-they DO something. GREATTT!!! Good for them!

I did not try and attack her as you say. She calls a known Christian org.that has aided millions ,a 'joke' and then 'links' to crazy people who kill abortion doctors. What? Right? She brings in another discussion about killers, but that's OK. Would she have said they are a joke if it were an atheist org.?
Why don't you let her answer for herself?

Now,your post was direct so good and well laid out for that part. Impressive and I say these things sincerely. I wish more were like you.
I have read so much nasty, hateful stuff -much of it incorrect ,especially about Bible errors,etc.,etc.,about Christians, etc.
I decided when I had a moment-and it's hard to find time- I would give answer. Not always the best(and I am a poor slow typist) to be sure, but at least an answer.

Good refutation I say. You did it fully direct, but not in nasty manner. But,her post was too thin to say much more. Let her say more. You are not her.
Let her say what does she mean about crazy people killing doctors that perform abortions and how even relates to the Club and our original discussion. If she poorly exrpressed herself ,which is possible and was misintrepted by me as you say let her talk.of
Hi Jeff,
No! No one really is. He is human just like anyone else. i know people that have known him for years. While they disagree with his making public statements of a very contraversial nature and tell him so ;they tell me he has given millions to those in need and has personally helped at orphanages, etc.,but he has slowed down due to age.
As Dr.Amen world authority on ADD and other brain disorders says his prefrontal cortex does not function well and this is what-no excuse-leans itself to blurting out statements, etc. This cortex is your 'brake' and some don't have proper circulation there and are subject on making remarks they shouldn't. Again, not an excuse- seek help.
He has apoligized by phone,in public,by statement, or in some cases in person to those he has made remarks, but,of course it should cease. His son is the opposite and is not given to inappropiate remarks in public.

My premise really was to focus on works for those in need, not leaders like him or anyone for that matter. If there is an org.one agrees with to some degree in their work then do something for the poor.
I have given to a number of secular orgs.over the years and to 700 Club as I know all of the work they are doing. I don't serve or work for PR or anyone. My personal goal is to to help.

Some get obsessed with a personality, I don't. No one can doubt that Catcher in the Rye was a fabulous novel, but its author had many failings as a person. All that know his secertive withdrawn life understand this. I look at his work-not his personal problems or weaknesses, etc.

If the person is involved in the world of religion in some way then those that have a bias towards faith tend to attack even more as I have witnessed here. Not that the person doesn't need rebuke or correction, but being virulent along with profanity, etc.,is not right.

I do want to say I am very grateful that I am allowed (I know my popularity macthes that of Attila the Hun here!) to post by the gracious webmaster even though I don't agree on many issues here, just as others don't agree with me,but we need diversity and the other side in any given issue.
I have read some really good informative posts on this fine site from some that have researched and know the issues. I respect them. I see their points.

Jen refuted me in a detailed proper outlined manner and I acknowlged this as a good post. It was 'professional.'
Jen,
Hello. Again,a good post and well taken. Left out was the $234,899,791 given to the needy for such things as food, shelter, training and providing equipment to raise food, creating thousands of central water wells, medical supplies,et.c,etc.

No one is turned away because of their background-no matter what it is(unless they are wanted for a criminal act!) and no one is forced to 'believe' or read litrature,do push ups over a Bible or hang from a church steeple, etc.or go to a chruch. That is voluntary on the receipent's part. Eye witness speaking here!
Also, within the rest of that budget many are helped into a new life from drug addiction, alcoholism, abuse of various kinds, secular education in vocation and or college training, etc.

It conforms to IRS standards. BBB has their own standards, which is fine. They are not government or the IRS hence, have no authority. A close friend of mine works in the IRS for some 25 years and there is no problem with the Club/Operation Blessing or any of it's connections.

PR's salary is $16,610 per year. The CEO is about $325,000. He gives a large portion of this salary(after he has given 10%) to those in need. People that know him say his family is committed to helping the poor in any way they can. It doesn't make the'news' so people assume it ain't happening. He puts in long hours and there is much responsibility too.

You miss my point and no reference to your fine, detailed mind, but I am not trying to get people here to donate!!! I was using the PR contraversy as a take off for those on the board to help in any org.they wish,of course. Even in this computer age there is misunderstanding even when things are written down in public as it were! I am not talking about my inability to correcly express myself on the screen either! Me to you-you win hands down!

I have sincerely applauded-not that they needed that from me- those that indicated they are involved in 'secular' charity work for the needy on this board. It was wonderful and exciting to read how some are helping through 'secular' orgs. It matters only that those who need help are reached.
My take was stop criticising and get to helping in any way or venue you desire. You can disagree, but go to work on helping.
