I just seen one of the most dumbfounding articles that I've ever read in my life. As the title says the article is '6 reasons not to send you're daughter to college'.
There reason I'm posting is to show you guys and also just to ask how you think you could actually argue against someone who is as, for lack of a better word, misguided and illogical as this. I was just thinking how I would respond if someone approached me with this stance and all I can think of is, well, more along the lines of insulting them and telling them where to go, instead of actually trying to argue...
I'd love to know what you guys would do if it ever happened!
Here's the link, but be prepared, you might lose a lot of brain cells by reading it...
Wow, that entire website is a misogynistic shit pile. And people usually think only Islam hates women. It's very clear that every religion does.
You know, the only way theists could have ever won their war on women was if they started a literal war on women. If they captured and enslaved all female humans, beat them, sell them, put them in dark slave clothes that would cover their entire bodies in order to further dehumanize them, and send the disobedient ones to be executed. In short, Saudi Arabia. An Islamic utopia. That was their only chance, but the west squandered it. Now civilization is advancing, and these half-monkeys are stuck fighting a losing battle, trying desperately to inconvenience women with shit like this and abortion laws and what not.
If they want to "Fix the family" and live in a world like that, they should just move to some shithole like Bangladesh or Pakistan where they won't have to worry about sending their girls to school. They won't even need these pathetic excuses, and long-winded shitfests of articles to rationalize their misogyny! Instead of that, they can just let their real motives come out and threaten to throw acid in their daughters faces. That should deter them!
Exactly! How does that differ from the Taliban's belief that the only education women need is to listen to their husbands?
I think arguing is only worth doing if it will be of any use. If you have an opponent who actually is willing to listen and learn from you, or if there are others around who you want to hear the counter-arguments. But in a case like this the person's beliefs are so far away from what you believe, and they have to commit so many leaps/fallacies/assumptions to reach them, you would never even begin to have a meaningful conversation.
Barny Frank had to deal with this about Obamacare, if you recall:
Town hall question: ...they say we need to reduce medicare expenses to reduce the deficit. This is the T4 policy of the Hitler policy in 1939, where he said "Certain lives are not worth living."...So my question to you is why do you continue to support a Nazi policy, as Obama has expressly supported it, why are you supporting it?
Barney Frank: When you ask me that question, I'm going to revert to my ethnic heritage and ask you a question: On what planet do you spend most of your time? ...You stand there with a picture of the president defaced to look like Hitler and compare the effort to increase health care to the Nazis. It is a tribute to the First Amendment that this kind of vile, contemptible nonsense is so freely propagated. Trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table. I have no interest in doing it.
He says he is a Catholic, but of course no true catholic thinks like that - grin ;)
Exactly how I felt!!
Aww thank you Belle :)
Hi Sean – keep your eyes open for this rag that sometimes gets pushed through letterboxes in Dublin. It is a vile publication for Catholics and unlike “Fixthefamily” its editor is actually a member of the church hierarchy. It is staggering in its homophobia and “anti-atheist” pronouncements. It seems to have tones down the vitriol a bit. Maybe my regular letters of disgust for their poor standards of Christianity helped but I doubt it. It never ceases to amaze me how the pious can have such a vulgar mindset.
Interesting perspective Belle! But I imagine if you said "YOU'RE GOING TO ENTRUST THE FATE OF YOUR WIDOWED DAUGHTER TO THE INTEGRITY OF AN INSURANCE COMPANY?" they would just say it's God plan no matter what, his testing our faith, etc!
I'm familiar with that, it's been a long time since I've read it but I remember it was dirt. The local priest in my area is very much in line with the publication. One of those people who think his better than everyone else and has authority because his a priest.
That being said, here are the reasons to NOT send your daughter to college:
1.She will attract the wrong types of men.
Yeah...men with a BRAIN
I certainly don't think that college is necessarily the correct educational route for everyone. Vocational and trade school educations provide equally valid courses for certain individuals, myself included. The annoying thing about the mindset of FixtheFamily is that the female segment of our society is portrayed as primarily servants to the males. And their approach completely invalidates the stay-at-home dads who have become much more common place in today's culture. Their attitude reflects and emphasizes the growing chasm between common sense survival in a modern society and the outdated modes of thought religion expects from it's followers. The outrageous proposition offered by this website is actually beneficial. It serves to expose the ridiculous mentality most religious organizations possess.
A few years ago, I could have given you a 7th reason - I seduced every girl I could get my hands on.
