Event Details

Event Description

***Times for the show are always 5PM PST/8PM EST***

For this episode we're thrilled to be able to feature Dr. Phil Plait, LIVE!

Dr. Plait is the man behind the Bad Astronomy blog, a multiple award winning blog on astronomy and skepticism that in 2009 was named as one of Time magazine's best blogs. He recently put on a three part documentary for the Discovery Channel called Phil Plait's Bad Universe. Dr. Plait is the author of two books, his latest a fascinating and eye-opening list of all the ways the universe could destroy us.

Dr. Plait received his PhD from the University of Virgina in 1994 and went on to work on the Hubble Space Telescope. He served as the president of The James Randi Educational Foundation from 2008 until 2010. And- this is so cool- the dude has an asteroid named after him!

Don't miss Greg and Dr. Plait's chat! In the meantime check out Dr. Plait's blog, follow him on twitter, and don't forget to RSVP!

That was awesome.

But I sound frickin' weird on the podcast! I really hate what my speaking voice sounds like when it's recorded... :/

Oddly thanks to having a math quiz due tonight, I will be able to attend the radio show after all! I'm so excited!

Thank you, Nelson, for forwarding my question to Greg. I look forward to hearing if it's answered.

@Nathan: i've heard back from Greg after i forwarded him your question and he's added your question to the list of questions he intends to ask. so, time permitting at least, it looks like you'll get your answer! :)

good question Nathan. i've forwarded it to Greg in an effort to get it answered for you. i will say, though, it's rather more of a cosmology astrophysics question than an astronomy question but Dr. Plait may still have an opinion on it.

thanks for the question!

btw, if anyone ever has any questions for future guests they can drop them in this thread in the Radio Show group. that way they're most likely to be seen by either Greg or myself. :)

I know I already posted it... don't kill me for posting this here, too... :D

I'm not going to be able to be there live, so I'll have to listen to it later when it becomes available for download.

But I do have a pressing question I would love asked. It does not have to do with atheism at all, but with astronomy, cosmology, physics, and exoplanetology.

Recently, Professor Vyacheslav Dokuchaev submitted a paper to the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics entitled"Is There Life Inside Black Holes?" If I understand the paper (and the media) correctly, he's positing that a planet could orbit the singularity inside one of the supermassive black holes we find at the centers of galaxies, and that this planet could even harbor life.

I'd love to know if Phil's heard about or even seen this paper and if he'd comment on it, and maybe even write a blog about it. I'd be very interested in hearing his thoughts.

This link is to the .pdf of the full paper.

On a side note, I also asked Michio Kaku at Big Think about it. I'm hoping his next video at big think is an answer to my question.

Please ask Phil. I really want to know what he thinks.

Thank you.
