Event Description

Hello members of Think Atheist! I have a very special announcement to make:

Think Atheist will be hosting its first ever meet-up in Washington DC on October 30, 2010... an hour after Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity! We will be live video streaming the rally for those that cannot make it.

We’re announcing this a month and a half in advance to give interested members a chance to plan ahead if they’d like to attend. Jon Stewart's rally should give you a bit more incentive to show up! ;) If you need even more, Morgan Matthew, the network creator, will be there, and we’re hoping to have at least one guest speaker. The purpose of this meet-up is to get to know each other face-to-face and continue working towards a supportive community.

We would love it if you RSPV ahead of time so we know how many to expect. The number of people interested in attending may determine our location. The Rally to Restore Sanity is scheduled from noon to 3pm (visit the link to receive more information).

I can’t wait to meet all of you! More updates to come!

There will definitely be a next time, James. It was so ridiculously crowded that I can understand how people couldn't/didn't make it. We'll be better prepared next time as well, so you'll get to experience the more organized meet-up :)

I had a great time, as did Melinda. We were going to go somewhere nice for dinner, but wound up just hanging out at the bar and eating there. It was very nice to chat and talk with people, hear their stories, meet the founders of the site, and just be with likeminded people for a while. It was kind of funny, 10 atheists in the corner, bitching about the inclusion of God in the rally. Hahaha. Let's do it again!

I hope everyone who had planned to show up for this meet-up was actually able to find us! The grill was jam-packed and I'm positive they were understaffed (I had called to make reservations earlier in the week and they had assured me Saturday would be slow... riiight), so we weren't able to get into the area we were hoping to get into, and we didn't think to make ourselves clearly identifiable to those who may have been hunting for us. A sign for Think Atheist would have been nice!

But, we live and learn. Next time we'll be more prepared, and we sure won't hold a meet-up after a huge event like that again! The rally, however, was quite impressive. I do have some pictures to post, and I hope anyone else who has pics will also post theirs. I may start a group dedicated to the brilliant posters people came up with.

Thanks to everyone who did show up! The meet-up turned out really well and Morgan and I both had a lot of fun. We can't wait for the next one!

The meetup was indeed lots of fun; we'll have to do it again soon (but not in DC!)

I hope everyone has fun at the meet up!

The grill we are meeting at is very full but we do have a reservation under Morgan Matthew in the Gold Room (which is actually more like a nook with couches & recliners). Good luck! Hope you're all enjoying the rally!

I hope not. I would like to keep partisanship out of this if possible... Even if the louder crazy ones of today are on the right.

I'm coming with my girlfriend, so my RSVP is plus 1. See you all there!

Anyone that is attending the meetup thought about taking a laptop and setting up a BlogTV channel (or similar) so the rest of us can get some face time? Just a thought :)
