I'm actually far more perturbed to see that Richard Dawkins won't be there. I only found out because it was mentioned in a comment re: Depp.
Johnny Depp will now not be attending. About half way down the page.
I tend to think of the Metro line as "hyperspace." I don't care how far it is as the crow flies, if almost all the distance is covered by the Metro. It's not subject to traffic jams and/or hassles finding a parking space. If you're getting to an age where a long walk is not a good idea, then I am kind of surprised you didn't optimize for least walking at the expense of distance.
I have a knee which sometimes bothers me (but usually not), but I hate walking through hot or muggy weather.
Last time the Metro was super convenient because the Metro stop for the Smithsonian was practically right there, you ended up at the end of the actual rally furthest from the stage, where the tents with tables in them had been set up. It was interesting because practically everyone in the car was riding to the rally.
It's a longer slog from any metro stop to the Lincoln memorial GWU looks like the best bet based on the map. I hope it's not hideously muggy that day.
Last time I just exchanged phone numbers with someone else who'd be there. There won't be a T|A booth or anything like that.
BTW I just bought a non-refundable hotel room right off the Metro in Virginia, so I'm committed. (No way am I going to try to bring a car into DC; the only thing you can do with it once there is light it on fire.)
This could be good to visit the day after. George Hrab will attend. I published this video by him in Sunday School a while back.
Last time I went, I was there for the FFRF dinner the night before, and the main rally--I have no idea if anything else went on beforehand. I do know that I saw the image of Cthulhu on the hotel room's bathroom door and the next day there was a "protester" shilling for Cthulhu worship; I wished I had taken a picture (the one I linked, I took after the rally); he would no doubt have been amused.
My two Smithsonian faves are Natural History and Air and Space. I've never seen the American Indian museum.
Also, I haven't decided for sure what my itinerary is and what days I'll be there.
