archaeopteryx replied to Ron Humphrey's discussion 'insane comment following tornadoes in Oklahoma'
"Yes, I can see that it would - it would make me feel stupid. Children write letters to Santa because they believe he's real and that he really gets the letters. In the case of your god, ain't nobody home, so why pretend to believe there is?"

"If I remember correctly, there was a decent set of anthropological studies summarized in SciAm a couple of years ago that showed high correlations of teen angst with western-style schooling.  Warehousing kids, leaving them with videos and such…"

"This is not exactly the most trustworthy source, but it does seem some devout followers of the EDL and these God-fearing Muslims have something in common: they both want to start something of a civil war. And it seems there is something else that…"

Welcome to TA

Our Radio Show

This week on the Think Atheist Radio Show we have our interview with Dr. Sebastian Seung! Dr. Seung is a professor of computational neuroscience at MIT. A leading researcher in the emerging field of connectomics– the field of study that is attempting to map the connections in our brains– he has made important advances in artificial intelligence, neuroscience, neuroeconomics, and statistical physics. His recently published book, Connectome, does just what the subtitle says, explains how the brain's wiring makes us who we are. With implications for personality, identity, intelligence, memory, and even disorders such as autism and schizophrenia, this is a wide-ranging and fascinating book on a subject that would be right at home in a sci-fi movie but is in fact real! Don't miss this discussion!

And don't miss our recent interview with Dr. Jessica Pierce! Working in bioethics, Dr. Pierce is the co-author of Wild Justice: The Moral Lives of Animals. What does it say about human morality and what does it mean for the study of morality that many animals demonstrate behaviors that can only be described with words like "justice", "fairness", and "altruism"?

Make sure to check out all of our past shows and see who's coming up in the next few weeks! You can also grab the shows from our iTunes page.
