Holo Gram replied to Redlilly Pond's discussion 'Friend doesn't believe in dinosaurs.'
"Some people just believe what they need to believe at the moment. My wife has a scientific background and knows and understands the makings of the universe and evolution. But she also studies the bible, knows just about everything in it, and…"

Unseen replied to Unseen's discussion 'Why isn't a 14 year old girl old enough to consent to sex?'
"Thanks for appreciating the honesty in my question.  As I now understand it (and please do correct me if I'm wrong) the apparent malice in the parents action is what makes it a discriminatory event.  Other than that, I imagine if it…"

Don replied to Mercedes's discussion 'Why do atheists ask for so much proof to believe in God?'
"We all have beliefs, of course.  We can't avoid believing.  What's crucial is that we take care as much as possible to invest our belief only to what we know to be true.  The key element, then, is knowledge, for knowledge…"

Welcome to TA

Our Radio Show

This week on the Think Atheist Radio Show we have our interview with Dr. Sebastian Seung! Dr. Seung is a professor of computational neuroscience at MIT. A leading researcher in the emerging field of connectomics– the field of study that is attempting to map the connections in our brains– he has made important advances in artificial intelligence, neuroscience, neuroeconomics, and statistical physics. His recently published book, Connectome, does just what the subtitle says, explains how the brain's wiring makes us who we are. With implications for personality, identity, intelligence, memory, and even disorders such as autism and schizophrenia, this is a wide-ranging and fascinating book on a subject that would be right at home in a sci-fi movie but is in fact real! Don't miss this discussion!

And don't miss our recent interview with Dr. Jessica Pierce! Working in bioethics, Dr. Pierce is the co-author of Wild Justice: The Moral Lives of Animals. What does it say about human morality and what does it mean for the study of morality that many animals demonstrate behaviors that can only be described with words like "justice", "fairness", and "altruism"?

Make sure to check out all of our past shows and see who's coming up in the next few weeks! You can also grab the shows from our iTunes page.
